To receive a pledge or gift of adoration, see an innkeeper, preferably one in a major city. Purchase a stack of love tokens and a bottle of either cologne or perfume, depending on which you prefer. Cologne means the female guards will like you, perfume means the male guards will like you. The gender of your character doesn't matter.

Apply your scent, then looks for a guard with a heart over their head and offer them a love token. If they fall for your casanova-like charms, they'll reward you with a gift/pledge. If not, you'll get a "heartbroken" debuff. This debuff can be removed by other players with an unbestowed friendship bracelet - should be used, not traded. Once the debuff is removed, you can try again.
